As a practice in direct observation sketching I made this drawing (one of my very first!). I tried to capture the shapes and get the proportions as best I could. To make this easier I lighted the object sharply from one side to give more contrasting shadows.
I also chose to draw this wooden doll as a good way of familiarizing myself with human posture and rudimentary anatomy which I believe is essential knowledge when doing animation.
